Re(tro)view Mondays: Episode III
Hello all and welcome to the latest installment of the Bi-weekly Re(tro)view mondays. Here we will be going back in time and looking at some of the greatest (and some of the not-so-great) games in my backlog that expands way back to the birth of the Industry.
While my first two “reviews” were of fairly mainstream titles, there have been some requests for me to delve into some of the more… obscure titles in my backlog. Well, your wish has been granted. In the spirit of the 2008 Olympic Games, I present to you one of the stranger titles from back in the day: Caveman Games.
A Little History Lesson
Caveman Games is essentially the Olympic Games set in a Flintstone-esque universe where Dinosaurs and Neanderthals co-exist and compete in track and field events. You can select one of 6 different competitors (There are no differences between them aside from Cosmetic changes), and choose from 9 different events. The game supports either one or two players.
What Still Works
Overall, Caveman Games is very fun if you have a friend to play along with. The visuals are fairly detailed, and the sound is alright. The games are fairly challenging, and are not all simply re-skinned clones of one another like some other games from the era.
What’s Faded over the Years
As I said above, the game is fun if you have a friend. If you’re going Solo, you’ll find yourself getting frustrated and losing to the NPC quite often. As is with most older games, there are no in-game directions for the events, so for a first time player the games are usually begun by mashing buttons until something happens. Some of the games are near-impossible to figure out however, such as the fire-starting event.
The Final Word
All in all, Caveman Games is fun if you have a friend who is willing to spend a half hour or so trying to figure the events with you. If you’re going in Solo, i’d stay away, as all that will come of it is a shit-ton of frustration.

Oh man, I remember renting this and playing it with my brother.
There is a very, very strange website about this game. Second link when you google “Caveman Games”.
